4th and 5th class have been learning about procedural (or instructional) writing recently. We discussed different real-life situations where we see procedural writing, such as recipes, DIY instructions, game instructions and various other step-by-step texts. We read a selection of procedural writing and noted the features, including a title, ingredients/requirements, numbered steps, verbs in the imperative form (“bossy” verbs), connectives or linking words, sequencing etc. Each student drafted, edited and presented a procedure to sum up our unit.
We studied a variety of procedural texts as part of the topic and one was a recipe for homemade lemonade! So to put our procedure into practice, today we followed the instructions and made some delicious lemonade in our classroom. Yum!
