Over the last few weeks the pupils of fifth and sixth class have been receiving training in rugby from their trainer Tyrone Elliott. For many pupils this was their first immersion into the playing of rugby and familiarising themselves with the ball handling skills specific to the game, as well as becoming acquainted with tactics and formations with offensive and defensive play. Over the course of a few weeks, the pupils were commended for making significant progress in playing the game and really enjoyed the training sessions. We concluded the training with Tyrone by participating in a blitz under ‘rugby prime’ rules whereby the children played other teams their age in a non-contact, non-competitive environment in Clarisford Park. They really displayed a fantastic enthusiasm for the game of rugby.
